Prepare with purpose. Learn every session. Build around the way you drive.
From your first closed-course driver education day to refining an established track build, start with the event, the car and the driver. Use this guide to organize your preparation alongside your organizer’s current rules, your vehicle documentation and qualified instruction.
01 / Make a plan
Know your event.
Choose a run group that matches your experience. If you are new, look for a driver education program with instruction and ask how the first day works.
- Read the event’s eligibility, helmet, clothing, sound and technical inspection requirements. Check convertible and passenger rules where relevant.
- Complete the required forms and plan time for check-in, tech inspection and the drivers’ briefing.
- Set one learning goal with your instructor, such as consistency or smoother inputs.
02 / Prepare the car
Start with condition.
Use the organizer’s tech form and have anything uncertain checked by a qualified technician before the event.
- Inspect brakes, tires, wheels, steering and suspension for wear or damage. Confirm wheel hardware torque against the applicable specification.
- Check fluid levels and leaks, belts and hoses, battery security, seats and restraints.
- Remove loose items from the cabin and trunk; secure any permitted camera equipment.
Pressure targets, pad limits, fluid specifications and service intervals depend on the car, components and event. Use the relevant guidance for your setup.
03 / Build consistency
Make room to learn.
Learn the organizer’s flags, passing rules, pit entry and pit exit procedures at the briefing. Follow your instructor’s directions and stay within your experience and the conditions.
Leave room to correct mistakes. If the car develops a warning, leak, vibration or a change in braking, end the session safely using the event’s procedures and have the issue checked before returning.
04 / Review and reset
Turn laps into learning.
Use the break to rest, hydrate and debrief with your instructor. Record conditions, your observations and the one thing to work on next.
Follow the vehicle and component guidance for checking tires, fluids, brakes and cooling down. Log pressure readings with their conditions; avoid copying another car’s target. Have a problem inspected before the next session.
